Dense ruby/purple, its superbly pure nose of red and black fruits (raspberries, black currants and sweet, dark cherries intermixed with some forest floor, spring flowers, pepper and garrigue) is followed by a wine of exceptional length, ripeness, richness, texture and overall equilibrium. This is a full-bodied, beautifully seamless style of Chateauneuf du Pape that should drink well for 10-15 years. Both the 2008 and 2009 Cotes Capelan are blends of 82% Grenache from 75- to 100-year-old vines, 10 % Syrah from 60-year-old vines, and 8% Mourvedre from 70-year-old vines.”
