2007 was an excellent vintage for Barbera – and who better to stock in your cellar but the winery who started it all? Giacomo Bologna, who founded Braida, is known for his pioneering in Piedmont. He was the first to put Barbera in oak, and his innovations opened up the market for serious Barbera and interest in Piedmont overall. Bricco is his flagship.

Wine Enthusiast 92 “Bricco dell’Uccellone is a historic wine that shaped the modern history of Barbera d’Asti and Piedmont in general. Aged 15 months in oak casks, the wine is bountiful and harmonious with aromas of cherry, blackberry and spice. There’s a bright splash of crisp fruit on the close”.
Tanzer 91 (and listed at $55) “Bright red-ruby. Pungent aromas of raspberry, minerals, spices and white pepper; sexy and pure. Densely packed yet light on its feet, boasting terrific energy and saturating the palate with intense red fruit, mineral and spice flavors. Finishes impressively broad and long. This serious wine can’t beat the 2007 Montebruna for sheer verve but it’s richer. ”
