Tanzer 94 “Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Clos des Epenots. Explosive aromas of smoky minerality and earth; at once more pungent and nobler than the Grand Clos des Epenots. Then darker in its fruit character, with superconcentrated flavors of blackberry, black cherry, iron and minerals. Perfectly integrated acids give this a very suave texture and bring out the wine’s sweetness. Finishes with superb building length. The Clos des Epenots is classic Pommard while this is more aristocratic. Made from a crop of just 22 hectoliters per hectare, according to Courcel. One of my favorite reds from the Cote de Beaune in 2007.”
Burghound 92* - Outstanding – “An elegant, pure and ripe nose that resembles that of the Fremiers in that it is cool and restrained while featuring complex red berry and black cherry fruit, chalk and stone notes that complement perfectly the intensely mineral suffused big-bodied and powerful flavors that are tautly muscled, balanced, mouth coating and impressively long. While this is no better than the Epenots qualitatively, the personality is completely different. A choice but note that at present, this is the more austere of the two.”
