The Cave de Pomerols Picpoul de Pinet 2009 has been flying off our shelves this summer. This wine is delightful especially in the summertime. If you haven’t tried, now is the time. If you already love it, I suggest you get some more to keep yourself well stocked.
Never heard of Picpoul? It is a varietal believed to be originally from the Languedoc region in France. It is one of 13 grapes allowed into Chateauneuf du Pape and is known for its great acidity and minerality. Lovely as an apertif.
There is not a rating yet for the 2009 but here is the 2008

2008 Rating – Parker 89 “One of my favorite dry whites is the beautiful 2008 Picpoul de Pinet, a quintessential aperitif dry white that also works well with pasta, chicken, and seafood dishes. Its light straw color with a hint of green is followed by a fresh, lively wine that smells of melons, grapefruit, and green apples. Light-bodied and crisp with surprising flavor intensity, it should be enjoyed over the next year.”
